EHS Management Systems and Certifications
We build good EHS management into our businesses, operating units and facilities worldwide. Formal Management Systems and third-party verification help us succeed. Our corporate EHS Management System is based upon the "plan–do–check–act" cycle.
Many facilities have achieved recognition of management systems quality through such standards as ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001, or regional programs that include the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration's Voluntary Protection Program and the European Union's Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS).
Pfizer's global EHS Policy aligns closely with elements prescribed in both ISO 14001 and OSHAS 18001, international standards that specify requirements for an environmental, health and safety management system. These standards help systematically identify external requirements and issues important in managing EHS risk and reducing our impact. The standards give a framework to build effective programs and continually improve performance.
Pfizer encourages facilities to develop robust EHS management systems and, wherever practical, to obtain certification. Achieving third-party certification can strengthen a site's EHS program, thus increasing awareness and focus on EHS excellence.
